There are nearly 2400 Species of snakes around the world.But only about one sixth of these have venom , means poison strong enough to harm other creatures.only a few dozens ave venom powerful enough seriously harm or kill a person.Poisonous snakes use their venom to paralyze or kill their prey.Occasionally they will bite in self defense , for example if a careless person tread on them.Just in case , it is best to treat all snakes with respect,and to take great care when walking in places were snakes live.
Venom and fangs
Snake venom is made in venom gland on either side of the head.The snake inject its venom int victim when it bites, using its long teeth, called fangs.Back fanged snakes such as deadly boomslang and the twig snake have grooved fangs at the rear of the mouth.Cobras including coral snakes have fangs at the front.Vipers including adders, sidewinders and rattlesnakes have long hinged fangs that fold back when not in use
